Agriculture


The agriculture sector in Russia contributes 8.4 percent of the GDP and employs an estimated 11.4 percent of labor, as stated in the GDP/Employment by Sector of Origin table. The primary food crops produced are barley, maize, potatoes, rice, soybeans, sugar beets and wheat. The primary meat products are beef and veal, chicken, meat nes, lamb, pork and rabbit. The largest (in value terms) agricultural exports in 1998 were fish, sunflower seeds, cattle hides, wheat and chocolate products. The total value of agricultural exports in 1998 was $2,721.1 million, while the total value of agricultural imports in 1998 was $10,617.1 million.
